The Future of the Forum
The concept of the Sarbanes-Oxley Forum is to provide a helping hand to those who need assistance with this most demanding of legislation. The portal provides a solid platform to enable interaction, information exchange, and not least, direct help and advice from an outstanding group of expert members.
Over the last few years, thousands of businesses and individuals have been helped and assisted in countless ways. It is fair to say that the success of the forum has wildly exceeded expectations, and continues to do so. With approaching five thousand members, and usually serving well over 5,000 page views per day, the site has become a focal point for Sarbanes-Oxley discussion and information, both within the US and worldwide.
With such growth in membership and visitation, the hosting has started to creak a little. In addition, it has ongoing issues, such as fighting link spammers and hackers (some of whom
target it because it covers US legislation). The hosting and software constraints also make it difficult for us to add new features (such as a bookshop, a weblog, perhaps a wiki, or a similar open area), and the site's stability is not all it could be.
It is therefore important that we do upgrade everything as soon as possible. To achieve this, however, requires investment. As the site is free, and not commercially aligned, this is easier said than done. We run a couple of minor ads, and Google Adsense, but these do not even cover current costs. We are also not prepared to compromise the integrity and nature of the site, and so any advertising needs to be discrete and unobtrusive.
The other difficulty is that we need the investment in advance of the upgrade. This is simply because we don't want to be in a position in which we are under pressure to compromise the principles of the forum to pay the next monthly bill
We are therefore launching two initiatives to attract sufficient funding:
1) A Sponsor
We are hoping to find a sponsor for a 'static' (and non-intrusive, existing color aligned) banner box in the very top right hand corner (currently the sort of brown-gray area with the search box that no-one uses). If you can help via this opportunity (or other potential advertising) please get in touch via the Feedback link on the left.
2) A Donation Page
This is simply a PayPal Donation link, for members and visitors to contribute towards the costs. See the foot of this note.
Hopefully we will be able to raise sufficient finance to be able achieve these improvements shortly, and continue to provide a stable platform to assist those struggling with the act.
We thank you for reading this, and for any assistance you can offer.
