SOX - SUCKS 567

  • 😢
As a Network Administrator of 15 years I am truly sad to see any corporation implement SOX. SOX is basically undermining true network administration at key areas the area where it needs to be facilitated the most in the work place. With corporate pencil pushers receiving heat from wealthy board directors, they are forced into a position that is eliminating the efficiency of the work place, when employee’s efficiency drops, so does corporate revenue. Be prepared pencil pushers.
It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize the once important and highly technical duties of an network administrator are now being spread over several non-technical positions from help desk to basic technical support, which is going to leave numerous network administrators out in the cold and beating the pavement, that is unless you are asked to be an IT receptionist, as is basically what is currently happening to my current position. The more and more duties of my position I lose to help desk staff far away, the more and more I am simply a middle man facilitating non-technical issues. However, and much to my enjoyment I am seeing more and more technical issues failing when corporate policy dictates a desktop user to configure their own computer, problems arise and hey, since the corporate pencil pushers are cutting the employees in the know out of the loop; the desktop users are going to have to figure it out themselves, oh yeathey got the help desk to assist.
    Thank you SUX.

  • Nice rant, but if network administrators are being undermined in large corporations it is not due to implementation of SOX.

  • Yes, it is true, network administrators are being undermined in large corporations, and it is too bad from a security perspective.
The main reason for that: They believe in what vendors saylike:
Each time you have a problem, you will just need to call us’
Year after year, we see administrators becoming middle men.

  • Do you remember those bad apples from Y2K???
Most of them are still around… …Kind of like, terrorist
cells… Just waiting for their chance to strike…
It is the my view, as an ‘old school’ IT Auditor, that many provisions of
SOX, has provided the necessary tools for Senior Management, to close, and put the locks back on all those ‘computer system’ doors, that were open to IT professionals, back in 1998 and 1999, to fix the ‘so-called’ problems, related to the Y2K hoax.
Many Y2K readiness processes, included grabbing, unqualified, unscreened, warm bodies from off the street. In fact, this is when many of the IT professionals, in the field today, got their start…
As you may well know, SOX is making senior management aware of a lot of things about their systems and processes that they DIDN’T KNOW …
ASHAME., ASHAME., ASHAME. ON THOSE, WHO THINK SOX HAS GONE TO FAR… In fact SOX is saving their butts in ways they have, FORGOTTEN ABOUT…
I THINK YOU SHOULD STOP YOUR CRYING, AND START KISSING THE
FEET OF CONGRESS AND SEC MEMBERS… OR ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE CELLS?, JUST WAITING FOR YOUR CHANCE…??? GROW-UP ALREADY. YEA?

  • How does anyone beleive that SOX threatens IT jobs. If anything it emphasizes the need for skilled administrators that understand network and network security.
For years our IT department was given heat because of netowrk controls that we implemented to protect the network, the users, and the information. We just finished a preliminary SOX audit and the Auditors were surprised how far along we were in compliance with SOX. Now we are heroes to those same people that criticised us before.
Look at what Visa and Master card are doing (usa.visa.com/business/accepting_visa/ops_risk_management/cisp.html) to protect infromation now. These questionaires look amazing like SOX compliance.
All SOX has done is make us do our jobs.
