SOX Compliance - Getting started 1741

  • Ive been lucky enough to land a job implementing SOX in the UK but I need advice on how to get my fellow colleagues on board.
I must introduce Dept. Managers to the controls and self-assessment sheets in the near future and am wondering how to tackle this.
How can I get my colleagues on board?
How can I convince them to increase their workload?.
Im only 2 years out of university and dont really have experience of SOX projects and feel a bit like Ive been thrown in at the deep end.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

  • Hi, welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your new position 🙂 This post may help you get started in looking at the general framework in setting up a SOX program. Besides education and training, one important thing that’ll help is senior management backing. SOX is important and improper compliance can cost the company USDUSDUSD

  • this is the toghest part of being a sox manager.
You must get backing from the Board of Directors (they have overall responsibility), and ensure that it is communicated to all relevant managers that they are responsible to ensure that their department complies as necessary.

I totally agree. It is not your job to get everyone on board that this must be done - that is the job of the BOD and Company Management. Your job will be to teach everyone what must be done and supervise their overall efforts. Depending on the size of your company, you may not be able to do this alone. Don’t underestimate the effort that this will require.

  • Thanks for the advice folks its much appreciated.
Its going to be a challenge but i’ll take it one step at a time.
I’ll be back on the forum for advice soon.
    Thanks again.

  • Don’t worry 🙂 I’m in the same position as you - or, I was… Started right after university, even before I had my last exam.
Been working with this for 2 years now, and it only gets easier. We have 2 offices in UK as well as in other european countries which is my responsibility
