  • Question for everyone…
Do you write your narratives before or after you do the matrix? Why?

  • What Matrix?

  • I guess he’s talking about a risk- and control matrix?

  • I should have maybe given a longer answer.
SOX does not require you to do a narrative nor does it require you to prepare any sort of matrix, risk and control or otherwise. Therefore if someone posts as short a question as posed here no one can answer it without making major assumptions.
The lesson for all is to post as detailed a question as posssible - without affecting corporate confidentiality - and you’ll get a better quality answer. 😎

  • Well put… 😉

  • Every company that I know of documenting SOX has used a combination of process flow maps, narratives and internal control matrices. Narratives are usually done before a process flow map and should be specific enough to give the reader and understanding of the process, including key personnel, systems, discussion of F/S accounts impacted. Narratives, if properly written, greatly help to clarify other documentation. There are no ‘rules’ per se as to the exact form of documentation but based on other industry company and recommendations from our internal and external auditors (PwC and Deloitte) this is the approach we’ve chosen.

  • What Matrix?
    Take the Blue Pill. 😉

We have actually skipped the separate narratives and added supplementary narratives to the process flowcharts. Our auditors (D-and-T) felt that the process flowcharts together with RCMs (Risk and Control Matrices) were sufficient enough.

  • Take the Blue Pill.
Generally, I’m a red pill kind of guy 😄

  • It doesn’t seem to me that you know what your talking about so maybe you ought to take the SOX guru from you name and put I don’t know what I’m doing in front of it.

  • Notice how many replies Denis has given?
Have any idea how many manhours we’re talking about?
I came into the SOX world 4 months ago and have worked hard at both my consulting job and ramping up my knowledge base using the Net, et al.
But, without the decency of Denis, George and others, I would not have the knowledge base and degree of understanding I currently have.
To say Denis doesn’t know what he’s talking about is a PROFOUNDLY ignorant statement.
He certainly doesn’t need anyone to defend him; he IS a SOX guru and a several star Master for good reasons and everyone who uses this venue knows that…except for you.
Heck, I was going to give you some Narrative/Business Control Matrix info but not anymore.
You’re rude to those who give of their time freely to assist you in your career?
You ask these questions out of ignorance and when you don’t get an answer that suits you and or within a particular timeframe and accuse those that bother to assist you with being ignorant?
You’re a dull-normal, spoiled little Momma’s boy and you probably had to turn to this venue because no one in your place of business can stand to interact with you.

The SoxGuru rank was EARNED Palladinmaster and assigned by the Admin of this forum. I’d have to suggest that you’ll never get anywhere near to that rank. Ross’s assessment is just about right.
