How does Sarbanes affect sharing MS Outlook with associates? 1155

  • My company recently sent us an email that we no longer could share access to other associates MS Outlook, email and calendars due to Sarbanes Oxley.
How exactly does the Act address this? Where can I look up further information on this specific topic?
If an assiciate sat at my computer and sent email from my MS Outlook wouldn’t that be a violation of security?
What are the reprocussions for this type of security breach?

  • When I read things like this I don’t know whether to laugh or cry
There is no real SOX justification for this.

    Well said.

  • Well it depends on the profiles of the associates sharing the access. Your company probably is trying to implement Segregation of Duties control into practice. If you receive emails regarding important financial data, access right information, or any type of other important info which can be misused by others, you should not share the access rights with others without priore permission of the management. As i said, it depends on the profiles. If your emails etc information is not critical, then SOX does not apply here…
