Open Source _and_amp; auditing 937

  • Perhaps this is not the correct forum to address this but I thought I’d toss it out there:
What are companies doing to deomonstrate diligence, to show that they have controls in place to keep other people’s intellectual property out of their open source sofware?? Also, what are companies using (software, process, etc) to indemnify customers and avoide intellectual-property hassles??
Any input you have on this will be greatly appreciated…

  • Open source software software whose source code is published and made available to the public, enabling anyone to copy, modify and redistribute the source code without paying royalties or fees. Open source code evolves through community cooperation. These communities are composed of individual programmers as well as very large companies. And as you know that some examples of open source initiatives are Linux, Eclipse, Apache, Mozilla, and various projects hosted on SourceForge. People get these s/w, experiment on them, customize them and do what ever they want.
The concept of open source came into picture to invite hidden intellectual prowess for further improment of the s/w. Key is involvment and not isolation. So if you want to keep your s/w away from involvment, simply dont make it open source. Any kind of control will kill the spirit of Open Source
