Is this necessary to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley 3177

Hello, hopefully someone can kindly advise me.
The company I work for rents tools, we use a computer system (oracle) to do everything (Dispatch/recieve/accounts/payroll…etc) all of these things are split and each employee can only access the part that is relevent to thier role.
I work in the warehouse and we ship and recieve the tools, by scanning them into the computer.
Recently they have said each employee can now only ship or recieve, not both, so that the company can comply with sarbanes.
It seems like overkill and really makes life hard.
Does this seem correct or is someone getting carried away with themselves?

P.S. The company is headquartered in the UK but owned by a bigger US company.

Receiving and shipping should be segregated functions, but it is not required that they be separated if there are other anti-fraud controls in place.

The problem in our case is there are only a four of us and as you can imagine with one on holiday and another sick, suddenly there is nobody to ship orders.
I wander what type of other controls would be necessary? I think there must be already as I cannot think of any way to scam it unless I was in cahoots with a customer (In which case it could be scammed if the separation was there or not)
I think we will just have to grin and bear it.

In a 4 person shop like you have, it would be very difficult to always separate those duties. Other controls to compensate for the overlapping duties could be regular, independent inventory counts and confirmations from customers that they possess for rental any equipment not on site (though, receipt of monthly rental payments from them would also indicate that they are renting equipment as they wouldn’t be paying without use of the equipment).
You should check with your HQ to see what other options they have for you given your limited resources.
