Question from a student 388

Hi guys.
I’m a college student and in need of some help regarding Sarbanes Oxley Act.
I’ve read through tonnes of articles/acts regarding or related to this Act but just can’t seem to find the answer to my questions. Will any experts please help?
Here are my questions.- How the Act arose?
- Which countries have implemented the Act?
- Did Singapore implement the Act?
- What is the Act’s effect on shareholders/investors?
Many thanks,
Syncer

Methinks you didn’t look hard enough:
- sox-online.com/basics.html
- The USA
- No
- Still open for debate.

Hi Denis.
Sorry for the trouble. I’m still pretty new to this forum.
Thanks for the reply and may i ask, with regards to question 4, can you provide me with a few links? Or can i just search ‘shareholders’ using the search function in this forum?
Cheers,
Syncer

The reason Q4 is still open for debate is because we are still relatively early in the SOX implementation cycle. Relatively few companies have reported so we don’t really know how the market will react to reported SOX weaknesses, though the early reactions appear to be of indifference.
In theory the impact of SOX on shareholders will arise from:- SOX requires potentially, significant costs of compliance - bad for shareholders
- SOX improves overall corporate governance - good for shareholders.
Which effect is the larger remains to be seen.
